What is burnout and why should you care?

In today’s world it’s easy to feel fatigued, burnt out, exhausted, or anxious. Before we share a few tips + tricks on how to calm the mind and bring anxiety and stress relief into our lives, let’s dive into what burnout really means.

To begin with, there are so many aspects of our modern life that can easily interfere with our goal of “balance”. It’s hard, if not impossible, to do it all. Burnout shows up by the way of many symptoms, including: memory loss, feeling constantly exhausted, anxiety, inability to handle stress, irritability, etc. Sounds just peachy, doesn’t it? Because of this, it’s time to address what burnout really means, how you can diagnose it and what you can do about it.

So what IS burnout?

According to the World Health Organization Burnout is a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterized by three dimensions:

  • feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion;
  • increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job; and
  • reduced professional efficacy.

Burnout refers specifically to phenomena in the occupational context and should not be applied to describe experiences in other areas of life. It has now been classified in the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11).

Common symptoms of burnout are feelings of being groggy, foggy, and unfocused among other things. It can easily affect every area of your life. Our founder, Patricia, knows this first-hand: after a successful career in tech, Patricia found herself in a total brain fog and, after consulting with several neurologists, decided to do something about it and BrainGear was born.

BrainGear’s patented formula was developed in partnership with neurologists from Stanford University and UT Austin who put 13-supplements-a-day via capsule or tablet, into BrainGear. We bottled the magic of those 13 vitamins and supplements into an easy to take shot, accessible to anyone, anywhere and at any time. One little bottle provides one big meal for your brain!

Here are some of our best tips to keep your mind, body and brain, feeling their best!

  1. Make good choices. This may sound basic, but you make 35,000 choices each day*. That is SO much information and most of the decisions you make aren’t even a conscious “choice”. It’s instinct. So how can you harness your power to make more of your choices in a proactive way, and best-suited to success? If you can make an effort to eat a vegetable or a banana instead of a granola bar, swap one meat-based meal for plant-based, use non-GMO products where possible, get an extra 1000 steps a day in, or sleep an extra 30 minutes, all these little changes will add up to a real noticeable difference! You will feel SO good!
  2. Exercise. Each of us is motivated differently,  but exercise is the key to endorphins and general wellbeing. You don’t need to be running marathons, but make sure move your body every day. Go for a walk, jump rope, do jumping jacks, take a yoga class online, just do something to get your blood flowing. It’s good for your body, mind and soul.
  3. Invest in your brain. The brain is our most valuable asset, yet we all do very little for our brains on a daily basis. When was the last time you did something to make your brain happy? There are a few things we recommend to have the healthiest strongest brain. BrainGear gives you all the nutrients you need to nourish your brain today, tomorrow and every day after that. Think of it like a green juice for your brain!
  4. Sleep. No matter what muscle or organ we’re talking about, everything works better on a full-night sleep. Don’t short-change yourself. Getting good sleep, and quality rest, is proven to boost productivity. More hours working do not equal more results or more success. Give your body and brain the rest they deserve and try to get at least 7 hours a night. Wind down before bed, skip the blue lights, or at least turn off your devices 30 minutes before lights out. Hint, hint...daily use of BrainGear helps with proper sleep, too, as a healthier brain means higher quality of sleep.

We hope you’re inspired to take the BrainGear challenge by including BrainGear in your daily morning routine for a full week and sharing your journey! We recommend starting with the Variety Pack as you will get to taste which BrainGear flavor you like the most!
